Students of the village Mzisguli Public School of Sagarejo municipality conducted an information campaign – “Violence against women is Crime” to prevent violence against women. In order to increase the awareness on violence against women in the community, the students met the Leader Women’s Center and Women’s Room representatives in the Municipality and invited a lawyer and a human rights expert to school.
A thematic documentary film was screened and discussed, a competition for drawings was announced. With the help of local government, action “Let’s Say No to Violence Against Women Together” was held and promoted by social media.
The students disseminated information booklets, created visual materials about successful women and exhibited them in the public places. The students of neighboring villages of Badiauri and Kandauri schools also were involved in the project implementation.
“In my neighborhood, there was a woman who was a victim of her husband’s violence. I wanted to help her but didn’t know how to do it. I did not know anything about whom to apply or what to do to help her. For that time the awareness about the protection of women and prevention of violence against women was low, but now the awareness on this issue has raised. I’m sure this project will be very effective. I personally had a knowledge about the Human Rights Declaration and the Convention on the Protection of Basic Freedoms of Human Rights. With the help of this initiative, I was able to get more information about it and the relevant articles,” -said Sophio Khuroshvili, a resident of the village Mzisguli in Sagarejo municipality.
