In June 2018, MT Students from Sagarejo public school № 3 decided to solve road safety problems. Students started with a needs assessment and identified that absence of road signs and speed bumps near the school are the most critical problems for the school community.

Students conducted trainings on road safety and prepared informational flyers calling community members to follow traffic rules. Later, students continued with an advocacy campaign and applied to the school administration and Sagarejo local municipality to place road sign “Be careful! The school is ahead!; at the school entrance.

This request was met by the local decision makers. At the end of the project, the students organized an informational meeting to call on community members to follow road safety rules.

During the event they painted a street crossing in front of the school. The local Police representatives supported the students’ initiative and temporarily stopped traffic on the road while students were painting the street crossing.
