Students
of Azerbaijani sector of village Irganchai public school in the municipality of
Dmanisi improved school infrastructure and organized reading promotion campaign
at school within the framework of a mini grant project – “My Favourite
Space”. Students
conducted a survey at school, to identify literature genres and books, their
peers are mostly interested to read.

They
collected famous peoples quotes about education and reading and exhibited them
on posters at school. In addition, students held an event “Adults are Reading
for Kids, at which they read stories in Georgian to their younger peers and made
presentations about Georgian and Azerbaijani writers – Ilia Chavchavadze and
Patali Akhundov.

Besides, a reading contest “Who reads better in
Georgian” – was organized and winners were awarded with Georgian books.As a result of a successful
cooperation with the local government and school administration, students arranged
a library at school and purchased some
furniture -book shelves, desks and chairs with mini-grant funds. The National
Library of Georgia and the program “Teach for Georgia” donated Georgian
books to the new library of village Irganchai Public School.At
the end, students held a project close-out event, which was attended by various
guests.

Giorgi Kekelidze, General Director of the National Parliamentary
Library of Georgia, screened a short film about bad habits and then talked
about their negative impacts on humans health, on memory, quality of education
and success.Project
was funded in the framework of the mini-grant contest organized by the Civic
Education project “Momavlis Taoba supported by USAID and administered by PH
International.
