School-based civics club students of village Ganmukhuri public school in Zugdidi municipality renovated a school library, equipped it with necessary furniture, enriched it with new books and arranged a space at school where meetings and events can be held. Students also collected scrap paper in the community and later exchanged it into new books.
New books for the library were selected based on student survey, which was conducted by civics club students earlier. To implement the project, students cooperated with representatives of Zugdidi Central Library.
They learned how to sort and renovate books, prepare and organize library catalogues. Students are willing to volunteer at the newly-renowned school library.For the promotion of reading among their peers, civics club students established a Readers’ Club and a Reading Day.
They are going to organize reading days for kids in the local kindergarten and for younger students of their school.
