Zviad Koridze, a Journalist had a Facebook live with students, teachers and parents via MTs Facebook page. During an hour live meeting, the speaker talked about disinformation, fake news, the role of media in the society and answered the questions of viewers:
What are the main media outlets or sources that spread disinformation and how could people avoid them? What is the easiest way to distinguish disinformation from a real story? How to deal with disinformation on various media outlets, including social media? How much damage can false information cause to a person or organization? What do children know about disinformation and what do they study at schools in this regard? What are the forms of prevention of disinformation in Georgia? Does disinformation threaten the democratic process? According to the law, how can a person providing false information be punished? – These among others were the topics that Zviad Koridze discussed with the students during the online meeting.
Participants of the meeting – students, civics teachers and parents from all regions of Georgia had the opportunity to ask questions to Zviad Koridze, via Facebook. The online conference had 82 comments and questions from students and teachers. The live meeting gathered 1,900 views by the time it ended. Such events are very helpful for students, teachers and community members, especially nowadays when information easily and uncontrollably spreads via various internet and other media outlets.
That is why it is very important to help children learn how to distinguish disinformation, be responsible and not to contribute to spreading existing fake news even further.
