Students from MT program’s partner schools took part in informational sessions dedicated to the memory of a famous aircraft constructor and engineer Alexander Kartveli. The seminars were organized by the International Society of Alexander Kartveli.
The president of the Society, Lela Kartvelishvili, presented biography of Alexander Kartveli, who was an influential aircraft engineer, a pioneer in American aviation history and an early technology innovator. Kartveli was born in Tbilisi, Georgia and later immigrated to New York.
The famous aviator designed and invented 14 aircraft crucial to U.S. military aviation history.
Kartveli was the creator of the P-47 Thunderbolt – one of the largest and heaviest World War 2 fighter planes. Student participants of informational sessions showed an interest in the life of Alexander Kartveli and asked many questions regarding his professional and personal life. “The information about the famous aviator of Georgian origin was so interesting that I decided to learn more and found additional information, photos and videos in internet. I am proud that Alexander Kartveli was Georgian”-said Beka Khunjua, civics club student from the village Chaqvinji public school.
