The civics club students of the Osiauri village public school decided to protect and save the Suramula river from pollution, as the river’s ecological status is important for the cultural and economic development of the region. The students conducted a community survey on environmental issues. At the same time, they met with the community members and talked about the negative impact of the river pollution on the environment and people.

The students studied the ecological status of the Suramula River and organized a clean-up event at the riverbank. The members of the civics club met with the village governor, Levan Gamrekeli, and the mayor of the Khashuri municipality, Mr. Giorgi Guraspashvili, to discuss the ecological problems of the city and presented the project for maintenance of the Suramuli river. In addition, students invited painter Irakli Licheli to their school and jointly created sketches on environmental issues, which provided information to students of other public schools in the Khashuri municipality who joined their initiative. Supported by the Osiauri school administration and local authorities, the students began painting dams on the Suramula River to persuade community members not to pollute the environment.

Students believe that because of their strong motivation, interest, and community support, their project will become an official public project.
