In December, 2015 MT program hosted end-of the semester events in Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Zemo Svaneti regions. The events featured presentations of successful initiatives by civics students and teachers.
Students, teachers, school administration officials and local government representatives took part in the events and learned more about the concrete results of civics education activities of youth. In their presentations, students spoke about an impact, which their civic engagement made on their peers and in their communities.
Students prepared photos, posters, slideshows and videos t present their work. They covered the results they have achieved through cooperation with governmental bodies and other decision-makers.
For example, village Khopuri (Racha region) school students made presentation of their project which aimed to inform public about the importance of the mineral water spring in their village and improve the infrastructure around the spring. Students conducted informational campaign and cleaning action and advocated for this issue with the local Government.
As a result, local Government decided to make efforts for the improvement of the territory and for placement of an informational banner to promote the spring. Civics club member students from schools in Adjara presented their activities aiming to prevent early marriage among youth, for prevention of bullying among peers, to promote knowledge of local communities about the essence of democracy and actions for environmental protection. At the end of the event, students presented a performance “I Have the Right to Live. At the end of the events students, civics teachers and supporters of students; initiatives were awarded with certificates. The events were covered by local media. All end-of the semester events were held in the framework of Momavlis Taoba Project, which is implemented by PH International in Georgia.
